Children of Hope
The Story of Le Minh Dao

In January 2017, I went to Connecticut to visit my dad...I had a beautiful time with my father for 5 days and 4 nights in his little cozy home. My father is a very loving man, funny at times and so humble. I remember asking my dad that first day of our recording, "Are you ready to tell it all, dad? Please see this as therapy, remember to let it all out."

My father looked at me with a smile first, then began to tell his life stories from the time the North Vietnamese Communists took over his beloved country, "South Viet Nam". Then the Viet Cong (communists) took my father away from us, and kept him in a hellish prison for 17 years as a Prisoner of War. As my father began to tell about the events that happened on April 30th, 1975, I noticed the passion in his eyes, full of sadness, mixed with anger.

Heroes of Xuan Loc

On sad afternoons in the North, I look to the South and miss my mother so much. Mom, so many years keep passing, keep passing until your hair turns gray. The space was filled with tears as if it was about to break. The wind is as choking as purple. Where else is the homeland of brocade flowers fragrant with hair? Farewell to the mourning South, I live a miserable life in exile
